Owls in good shape for Cardiff trip

17 October 2019

Sheffield Wednesday will head to Cardiff in good shape on Friday as the Championship season gets back underway following the break.

Both Liam Palmer (Scotland) and Atdhe Nuhiu (Kosovo) have returned from international duty and are back training at Middlewood Road as normal.

Massimo Luongo, who didn’t travel with Australia in the recent break due to a knee injury, is also in full training, while Fernando Forestieri and Sam Hutchinson are back from suspension.

Tom Lees (hamstring) is making progress and Garry Monk expects the captain back in full training next week.

The manager said: “Palmer and Nuhiu are both good, they have come back in, they’ve trained so it's good to have them back.

“They have come back with no injuries and the fact they both played is good, in terms of fitness and physical, and they’re back in and back out training.

“They are available for the weekend and in good spirits, so it’s all positive.

“Massimo is okay, he’s been back in training this week, he picked up a bit of a knock in the game and before that he was carrying a bit of a knock.

“We had to look after him in the first week of the international break but so far he has been fine in the trainings this week.

“With Tom, he is back out on the field doing most of the training and hitting the mark as we need so he will be in full training on Sunday when we’re back in. The game on Friday will be a little bit too soon.”
