With a maiden success to his name at the first time of asking, Garry Monk cut a satisfied figure post-match at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Whilst emphasising the need for continual improvement, the new Wednesday manager took pleasure from a productive first day at the office as his side beat Huddersfield 2-0.

He told swfc.co.uk: “You have to be pleased with any win in this division and particularly at what is a difficult place to come to with a new manager as well.

“But we did our jobs, we scored at the right times I thought, and it was a thoroughly professional performance.

“Defensively and offensively we got it right and credit to the players because they carried out what we wanted them to do and they deserve the three points.

“Of course, we can do things better, that’s football and from a coaching perspective there are always things to improve.

“But that will come with time. I’ve been in the job a few days and there’s a lot to work on but today I was pleased with the performance and pleased with the result.”

Monk took time out to thank the travelling thousands from Sheffield for the warm welcome he received ahead of the game, adding:

“It was a lovely reception and to get the win for those fans was really pleasing. Everyone around the place, at the club, the training ground and in the city has made me feel so welcome.

“I’m excited for the challenges ahead and will totally give my all for this huge football club.”
