Match preview: Boro v Wednesday

27 September 2019

Wednesday head to the Riverside on Saturday afternoon.

Boro have won two of their nine games in all competitions this season and go into the weekend in 15th position in the Championship.

Jonathan Woodgate’s side were beaten 1-0 away at Cardiff last weekend but have won two of their last three outings at the Riverside, defeating Reading and Wigan, both 1-0, while also drawing 1-1 with Millwall.

Wednesday are four points ahead of Boro in the Championship after securing a dramatic point last time out, with Atdhe Nuhiu scoring a stoppage time equaliser v Fulham.

From four away league fixtures this season, the Owls have won two (Reading 1-3, Huddersfield 0-2) and lost two (Millwall 1-0, Preston 2-1).

Team news

SWFC: Owls captain Tom Lees remains a doubt as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.

The 28-year-old was back on the training pitch this week and is closing in on a return but Saturday’s trip to Middlesbrough may come too soon.

David Bates (groin) will miss the Championship clash.

Middlesbrough: With no fresh injury concerns, Boro will be looking to seal back to back home wins for the first time this season.
