In these challenging current times, Hallam FM Cash for Kids launched an urgent appeal to help those families in our community who need it most – and Wednesday have stepped in to hand over no less than £5,000 from our official COVID-19 charity campaign.
The Cash for Kids appeal is aimed at the most vulnerable who are feeling the direct impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. These includes families on zero hours contracts who may be facing reduced or completely cut-back hours, or who have no access to sick pay.
Overall, there is a serious impact right now on children from underprivileged families following the closure of schools, and grants from the appeal will be made available to those who receive free school meals and families going through the most abject poverty.
Allan Ogle, charity manager for Hallam FM Cash for Kids, said: “We are so grateful to everyone at Sheffield Wednesday FC and their generous fans to help us support the most vulnerable people where we live get access to the basic essentials.
“School teachers, health professionals, social workers and small charitable groups can now apply for funds on behalf of the families they support.
“There are 118,000 children - 31% - already living in poverty across South Yorkshire and the devastating impact COVID-19 is having on our economy will very much see that figure rise.
“The donation from Sheffield Wednesday will have a huge impact on the families that need it most.”
