Thank you to Sheffield Wednesday!

23 April 2020

The Owls’ COVID-19 donation campaign this week distributed no less than £20,000 across a raft of local charities. And today we hand over to Robert Horsley, Head of Operations at one of those beneficiaries, Sheffield Mind, who are providing an essential service during these challenging times:

Sheffield Mind are extremely grateful to Sheffield Wednesday FC, your chairman, players, staff and fans for their generosity in donating £5,000 to support our work during the Coronavirus pandemic.

This unprecedented outbreak has challenged us, along with other charities, to find new ways of working in order to ensure that our clients, some of whom are the most vulnerable people in society, continue to receive essential support at a time when their needs will be at their greatest.

We are working hard to ensure that as far as possible we can continue to deliver our services in a safe and secure manner to protect the health of clients and staff, ensuring that clients are supported to access food and other necessities.

Support such as this provided by SWFC goes a long way to helping us maintain support for people with mental health difficulties at a time when many are facing huge challenges whether through isolation or as a consequence of the impact of the Coronavirus on themselves, their families and loved ones.

Sheffield Mind is also lending support to Sheffield Health and Social Care Trust to support the wellbeing of staff on the frontline.

Working alongside the Trust, our therapists are part of a helpline offering support to frontline workers who are affected by their experiences.
