Together as a group

11 December 2020

Tony Pulis described a bright week of training at Middlewood Road ahead of our clash with South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley on Saturday.

After suffering defeat to Huddersfield in midweek, Pulis was pleased to see the togetherness showed by his players upon returning to the training field.

The Owls boss said: “They were really bright yesterday in training and really together as a group.

“I was upset at the performance level against Huddersfield but fingers crossed it was just one of those games.

“If you look at the games, we deserved more points that what we’ve got and that’s self-inflicted, not that other teams have ran all over us.

“The other games, we’ve been in them and should have more points on the board. We’ve given soft goals away and when we’ve had chances we’ve not taken them.

“But now we’re focused on Barnsley. A lot of these players have been through the derby matches so they should understand what they’re about.”

Pulis spoke of derby matches and how much he’s always enjoyed being involved in them, both as a player and manager, and this weekend is no different.

He added: “They are very fit and very organised.

“It’s a local derby and these are games you relish and look forward to.

“The players shouldn’t need any extra motivation whatsoever. We need to roll our sleeves up and have a right go.”
