Under-18s run riot

7 December 2020

The Owls’ Under-18s hit a purple patch on Saturday, inflicting a 6-0 defeat on Colchester at Middlewood Road.

The hosts dominated from start to finish, creating a wealth of chances to post their most impressive performance and result of the season so far.

Alex Bonnington led the way with a hat-trick, Luke Hall fired a brace and Will Trueman was also on the scoresheet.

Bonnington opened the scoring just past the half-hour mark, emphatically finding the target after taking a neat ball from Fillimon Asfha into his stride.

That opened the floodgates and the Owls doubled their lead five minutes later. Hall and Paulo Aguas led the charge and the latter played a perfect through ball for Bonnington to slot his second.

There was no let-up for the U’s and three minutes before half time, it was 3-0. Aguas was again the provider, delivering a pinpoint corner into the mix, where headed home to complete his treble.

It was a blistering first half display and Wednesday kept the foot to the floor after the break. And seven minutes in, the contest was all but over. Corey Glaves intercepted a Colchester counter and fed Hall to cross low for Trueman, who smashed into the roof of the net.

Hall himself took centre stage to round off the rout. On 73 minutes the midfielder linked up well with Leojo Davidson to slide into the bottom corner and with 10 minutes to go whipped a free kick around the wall and in from 20 yards.

Wednesday: Hare, Davidson, Curtis, Yates, Aquas, Glover (Ashfa 15), Trueman, Glaves (Ashman 65), Hall, Bonnington (Cadamateri 70), Zottos
