Cup fever for Under-18s

9 January 2020

The Owls Under-18s take the short hop to Leeds in the FA Youth Cup on Thursday night.

The fourth round tie will unfold at Tadcaster Albion’s Global Stadium, with kick-off at 7.00pm.

Academy manager Steven Haslam says the players are eagerly anticipating the cup-tie whilst both parties anticipate a stiff challenge in West Yorkshire.

He said: "Both teams will be going into this expecting a tough game.

"It is always a good experience for the lads playing a game with a little more attention on it from the outside.

"It is a great experience for all the scholars up and down the country to play in the FA Youth Cup.”

Wednesday progressed to this juncture courtesy of an exciting 3-2 win at Luton and Haslam is hopeful of more success for his young charges.

He added: “It would be nice to win again, but it is a one-off game. It is all part of the bigger picture and all part of their journey.

"The FA Youth Cup is the pinnacle for their age group and we are going all out to win

"We are expecting it to be a tight and competitive game. They know a lot about us and we know a lot about them but we are looking forward to it.”
