Foot to the floor

Back in the fold after a brief period sidelined through injury, skipper Tom Lees is determined to make up for lost time.

Lees turned in a resolute, dominant display at the heart of the rearguard on Tuesday night as the Owls shared the spoils with Huddersfield at Hillsborough.

The whole backline was praised by Garry Monk after the game and in particular Lees for his organisational qualities.

The skipper said: “We want to be hard to beat first and foremost and that gives you the platform. The manager said if we don’t take three points then make sure you take one and I think we showed that side of our game.

“We have done a lot of work on the formation and we have the personnel to suit that situation.

“Personally speaking, it’s difficult when you’re not playing and when you get that chance you’ve just got to try and take it and I’m no different to anybody else.

“I haven’t trained properly but last night I felt loads better, much sharper and now I want to stay in the team and get as many minutes as possible.

“We have a tough game on Saturday as Fulham are a quality side, they keep the ball well and I’m sure they won’t take their foot of the gas, they will want to keep that momentum going.”
