Get the job done

10 July 2020

Positives and negatives have come from the last three games in equal measure but with each ending in defeat, Garry Monk knows the pressures that come with reversing that run of form.

So often said and always true, football is fine margins. A Julian Börner goal in the 86th minute looked to have settled the game with Preston and add a welcome three points to the board.

But the decision went against Wednesday and so did the goals right at the death to leave the hosts frustrated.

Monk wants to see concentration levels in those critical moments of games improve so as not to undermine the good work of the team throughout.

“I know results are king and they have to improve in these four games,” he said during Friday morning’s virtual press conference.

“We have to roll our sleeves up better and get the job done. We have had teams under the cosh and in difficult positions but teams have been able to get through that period.

“You have to capitalise when on top and in good positions in games and then find a little more resolve and grit to dig in, in moments when we need to do.

“We have been in positions to take points but need to find a bit more resolve and grit.”

Wednesday are now into the final four fixtures of the season and head to QPR on Saturday.

Monk continued: “It is tough. It is difficult. We are in transition and there are a lot of things that need to be set right.

“We need to get results, we understand that and these lads work hard. There is no giving up in these games.

“There will always be moments in games where you are on top but it has been about that game management in the key moments.”
