If you can't take three take one

14 July 2020

After the Owls shared the points with Huddersfield at Hillsborough courtesy of a goalless draw, Garry Monk focused on the positives of the performance.

Only a stunning save from Jonas Lossl late in the first half prevented a home success and Monk said the points would have stayed in S6 on another day.

Speaking to the media via Zoom post-match, Monk said: “If you can’t take three points then make sure you get one.

"We had three opportunities in the first half to get in front and it was a wonderful save from their goalkeeper. I felt for Kadeem because he worked so hard as did Moses on the other side. I thought they were both fantastic tonight.

“Nine times out of 10 you see the ball bursting the back of the net with a shot like that but well done to the keeper because that is some save. But if that goes in, they would probably have had to change their strategy.

“From our side I would say credit to the players because we have made improvements since the lockdown. We have no time for proper training, we are just in recovery all the time and that extra day’s rest can make all the difference.”

He added: “That’s back to back clean sheets and these things matter, they make a difference. Tom Lees coming back into the team has made a big difference with his leadership skills and organising.

“We were just lacking that breakthrough at the other end but our goalkeeper was hardly troubled all night. We are giving it everything, we have two games to go and we want maximum points.”
