Wednesday Ladies have been handed a huge boost ahead of next season as they have been elevated to the North East Women's Regional Football League Premier Division.
The Owls had been competing in the North East Regional Women's Football League Division 1 South and were comfortably heading for the title.
The season had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with Wednesday six points clear at the top of the league having lost only two games all campaign.
But now, having been accepted to play in the higher division, they will start the upcoming season in the North East Women's Regional Football League Premier Division.
Wednesday Ladies includes three adult teams, the first team, reserves and development squad as well as a large youth set-up which starts all the way from Under-9s up to Under-18s.
When the 2020/21 campaign begins, Dave Higgins’ side will be aiming for promotion once more, this time to the FA Women's National League Division 1 North.
