Last month, US-based supporters group Owls Americas had their first ever national meet-up in New Orleans to see Wednesday take on Derby at Hillsborough.
Owls Americas is made up of Wednesday supporters groups from the US, Canada and South America including the New York Owls, Toronto Owls and Sheffield Wednesday Argentina.
Normally, each group organises their own meet-ups to watch the Owls live on iFollow, however, on Saturday 29 February, the group came together for the first time to support Wednesday en masse across the pond.
Over 40 Wednesdayites were in attendance at Finn McCool’s Irish pub to watch the Championship clash.
Members from New York, New England, South Carolina, Florida, Ohio and Arkansas made the journey to New Orleans, some driving for more than 10 hours, with others making the journey by plane!
Paddy Jones, co-founder of the New York Owls and Owls Americas, said: “Despite the result, spirits were high as we spilled out onto the street and sang a few songs and took in the glorious sunshine!
“Afterwards we went across the road for a classic New Orleans Crawfish Boil in a friend’s backyard.
“It was at this point a few of us decided we should mark the occasion by getting a tattoo, so four brave souls got cabs back into the city to get Owls tattoos at a local spot!
“New friends were made, old friendships were cemented and a whole lot of fun was had.
“Talk has already turned to our 2021 meet-up and location, but it's going to take a lot to beat our first OA Away Day in New Orleans!”
