Craig Gardner joins Owls coaching staff

Tony Pulis has made the first appointment to his coaching team as Craig Gardner joins the Owls.

Gardner reunites with the new Wednesday manager having played under Pulis at West Brom.

The 33-year-old also wore the shirt of Aston Villa, Birmingham and Sunderland in his playing days.

Gardner made 327 appearances in total, 260 of which were in the Premier League, and represented England at Under-21 level.

He took a player/coach role at St Andrews in 2019 before becoming first team coach having hung up his boots in the summer of 2020.

Pulis said: “Craig is somebody I have great respect for, he is a top quality character. He's a young coach and very enthusiastic.

“Coaching is a massive cross-section of opinion and it’s nice to have people questioning what you’re doing and how you do things.

"I was one of the youngest people ever to get my coaching badges and was always questioning my managers! I think it’s healthy."
