A new group different to before

23 October 2020

Owls manager Garry Monk is focused only on the future and building a Sheffield Wednesday side to be proud of this season.

Our start to the season has been positive and the signs are there that Monk’s pre-season ambitions and targets are coming together.

The team’s togetherness, camaraderie and spirit are where they need to be for the monumental challenge ahead.

As such, Monk’s thoughts are solely on what happens from now, this season and not what has gone before.

On our home form, he said: “I totally get the statistics of the home form but I’m judging it on this season. It’s a new group. It’s different to before.

“We have only lost one game at home this season. The stats are always there and I take the responsibility for it. I will judge it over this season. The past is the past.”

Luton are next up at Hillsborough on Saturday and the Hatters have made a good start, though head to S6 after back to back defeats.

“It’s going to be tough,” Monk said. “It’s another difficult Championship game. They have had a good start to the season.

“But we have to concentrate on ourselves and deliver a high-level performance.

“We have a lot of players with Championship nous. A good squad has a good blend.

“We have got some really good young players starting out in their careers and we have then got that experience level.

“I think we have done a good job of altering our plan in the pandemic and work in the markets that we have done.

“We have done well with the first part of the transition.”
