Joost van Aken is set for spell on the sidelines after seeing red at Hillsborough on Saturday.
The defender’s dismissal against Luton over the weekend means a three-match suspension will now begin, starting with the midweek trip to Rotherham.
But there has been more positive news from the training ground with a number of injured players closing in on a return to action.
Tom Lees and Dominic Iorfa will come back into contention after resuming training at Middlewood Road, thus providing us with strong options at the back.
Izzy Brown is also another who will be hoping to play a part in the South Yorkshire derby.
On the returning trio, Monk said: “They are back out on the training pitches and we will have a good look at them fitness-wise to see where they are at.”
Massimo Luongo remains a doubt for this week, as Monk explained:
“The swelling has got to go down in his knee and he has missed training in that period. I don't see Massimo involved this week.”
