Match preview: Owls v QPR

2 October 2020

The Owls are back at Hillsborough for only the second time this season after five away games from six to start 2020/21.

QPR are the visitors on Saturday and will arrive in S6 with a mixed bag of results so far.

The R’s began their season with a Carabao Cup defeat away at Plymouth and have since posted a win, a draw and defeat in the Championship.

The win came at home to Nottingham Forest (2-0), which was followed by a defeat at Coventry in front of the Sky cameras (3-2) and a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough last week.

League-wise, it’s a similar story for Wednesday, with a win, draw and defeat after last Sunday’s 2-0 loss at Bristol City, though Wednesday posted victories in rounds one and two of the Carabao Cup.

The sides last met as recently as July, when Garry Monk’s side picked up a 3-0 win over the R’s at Loftus Road.

Here’s all you need to know ahead of the game;

TEAM NEWS

SWFC: Garry Monk confirmed no fresh injuries ahead of the R’s clash on Saturday.

Callum Paterson is eligible to make his debut for the club having completed his switch from Cardiff City this week.

One or two niggles aside, nobody is ruled out in terms of the game at the weekend.

Osaze Urhoghide has stepped up his recovery with minutes for the Under-23s, who are set to face Birmingham on Monday and Urhoghide is expected to play.

Regarding Chey Dunkley, Monk provided another positive update, saying:

“Chey went to see a specialist for a regular check with his injury and he was delighted with it. He has had pins removed which was always part of the process. He’s had a couple days off it to recover from that mini surgery and should be on the grass pitches today (Thursday)."

QPR: Seny Dieng is expected to start in goal, with doubts over the future of Joe Lumley.

The R’s have added to their frontline ahead of the trip to Hillsborough with the signing of Macauley Bonne on a three-year deal from Charlton.

Owls boss Garry Monk on QPR: “As a manager, everybody expects you win games and that's the life of a manager. You have to work in the best way you can and put your team in a place to win games. QPR have experienced Championship players and on their day they can be very dangerous.”

QPR manager Mark Warburton said: “I’m stating the obvious but I know Sheffield Wednesday will be very focused on Saturday. They got beat last week at Bristol City but should have been two up in the first half so will maybe feel hard done by but they’ll be ready for Saturday. They are a very good team, they have pace and power up top, experience in midfield, passing range, physicality at the back and pace on the wings. We know what we face.”
