We have to improve

24 October 2020

Garry Monk reflected on a bleak afternoon at Hillsborough and says the team must improve to keep chipping away at the points deficit.

Luton emerged triumphant thanks to a second half goal from Pelley Mpanzu to condemn the Owls to defeat.

And Monk acknowledged the performance was not of the standard he expects:

“We have to improve, we have to be better than that. It wasn’t good enough and we will be back in training tomorrow.

“We’re not getting the breaks, the sending-off was a bit soft but we gave the referee the decision to make.

“We had one disallowed, we could have had a penalty, but I’m not making excuses, we weren’t good enough today.”

On a brighter note, Monk gave a positive update on the injury front, with Tom Lees, Dominic Iorfa and Izzy Brown nearing contention.

He added: “Tom, Dom and Izzy are getting closer and of course you miss players of that quality.

“Wednesday at Rotherham will probably come too soon for Massimo Luongo and we will continue to assess him.”
