Garry Monk summed up a ‘smart’ summer window for the Owls following the transfer deadline last week.
Wednesday made two additions on Friday, with Jack Marriott and Aden Flint joining on season-long loans ahead of the deadline and the latter was straight in the side to face Birmingham on Saturday. Marriot meanwhile made his debut from the bench.
Monk said: “Aden came into the side at the last second and it allowed us to have a right-footed player on that side of the defence.
“He’s a fit boy, he’s done all pre-season and played Under-23s games. He helped with our balance on the right side.
“Credit to him, he knows what is expected straight away and he’s come in and delivered a solid performance.”
The Owls added nine players to their roster over the transfer window and the manager was pleased with the new recruits.
He added: “We needed that strengthening, it’s credit to the club and the chairman, I think we’ve been very smart.
“Transition is an ongoing thing, season on season, and to have got the squad where we have I’m very pleased.
“Now we have to make the team gel whilst also trying to win games. I’m sure the longer we spend together the better we’ll get, and in the meantime we’ll try to find a way to get points on the board and Saturday was an example of that.
“We’ve had help from the club to make this transition and bring that spirit. The type of players we’ve brought in add quality but also the type of person we need.
“We’re not always going to get it right, but we will always fight and show commitment. That shirt needs to be worn to represent our fans properly and I think the lads are doing that.”
