Attack the season head-on

10 September 2020

Garry Monk wants the Owls to attack the season head-on going into the Championship opener against Cardiff this Saturday.

Wednesday journey to the Welsh capital to kick-start their league campaign, and the manager is pleased with his team’s preparations.

Monk said: “We’ll be starting with a nothing to lose attitude.

“We know we have to try and put points on board and we will try to set out and use that as an advantage.

“We have to be organised and structured but we have got to have a no fear attitude.

“We have to attack it head on.”

The Owls boss recognised the clash with the Bluebirds this weekend will be tough, but is confident his side can get off to a positive start.

He added: “Our first game is probably as tough as it comes.

“We have had a good preparation and we are looking to take that into this game and the games before the international break.

“We want to try and get as many points on the board as possible and our aim is to start well.

“We know it is going to be difficult and there will be ups and downs, it’s a long season, but we are going to try and get off to a good start.”

Monk issued an injury update ahead of this weekend’s Championship curtain-raiser, with the majority of the squad being in good health.

He added: “Elias Kachunga is in full training and he will be ready for this weekend.

“Osaze Urhoghide will be back in full training tomorrow and Chey Dunkley is possibly seven to 10 days away from returning to full training and being in contention.

“Everyone else is fine.”
