Right at it from the start

The build-up and preparation for the Championship opener is all but complete as Wednesday head to Cardiff on Saturday.

The target is, of course, a winning start and to take the hard work from over the summer on and off the pitch into the season.

With a clear plan of how he wants his side to perform and what he expects from the squad, Garry Monk has outlined the importance of being at it from the word go.

He said: “The key is to take points. Three is the aim, one isn't the worst in the world but we know we need more threes than ones.

“The aim is always to go and get three points. We know we have to get points and we know we have to play that way right from the off.

“Sometimes in the league you have a slower start and then teams come on strong and those type of things. We know we have to be as full on as we can in every single game right from the off.”

So what is Monk looking for from his side this season? The question was posed to the Owls boss during his pre-match media on Thursday and he responded:

“When you’re looking to move it more dynamic, you want a more aggressive, dynamic feel to it offensively and defensively. That’s what we’re trying to move it to.

“I felt at certain periods last season we were too slow. We had a slower dynamic about us.

“Football is getting quicker and quicker all the time. I have always tried to build a squad that is more dynamic at the other clubs I have worked at.

“It will allow us to be more aggressive and have quicker movements.”
