Wednesday made it three wins in a row as they dispatched Cardiff 3-0 at Middlewood Road.

The Owls now move up to fourth in the league, level with Barnsley after a stellar performance. The goals came from Luke Yates, Charlie Curtis and Will Trueman.

The game was just three minutes old when the hosts scored their first. A terrific in-swinging cross from Jay Glover was expertly finished by centre half Yates into the bottom corner, leaving Cardiff goalkeeper Jake Dennis no chance.

On the 20-minute mark Basile Zottos had two efforts cleared off the line but the Owls would not be made to rue the missed chances as 60 seconds later Curtis doubled their lead.

Heavily involved was winger Zottos, who unselfishly gave the ball to Curtis in the penalty area and the full back struck a thunderous effort into the top corner.

It was a quiet day for Alex Hare but the Wednesday keeper was alert when called upon. Cardiff had one just the one chance in the first half from Ntazana Mayembe who was in on goal, but Hare got down low and saved well with his feet.

Just like the first, the second half started electrically for Wednesday, with Alex Bonnington and Zottos linking up to great effect as they did throughout.

On 50 minutes Bonnington flicked a header onto Zottos who dribbled through the defence but just lacked the finishing spark.

Moments later the same duo were again at the heart of the action as the contest was all but put to bed. A terrific passage of passing play resulted in Bonnington laying the ball to Zottos who drilled his feed into the area - Trueman arrived with pace and finished terrifically off the underside of the crossbar.

Wednesday were excellent in all areas, pressing the Welsh side at every opportunity. Indeed, the Under-18s have hit some real form, winning their last three games and scoring 11 goals without reply.

Next up is the Owls’ turn to cross the border with a long trip to Swansea on Saturday.

Wednesday: Hare, Curtis, Aguas, Glover (Ashfa 74), Glaves, Yates, Zottos (Al-Jahadhmy 82), Kilheeney (Davidson 69), Bonnington, Trueman, Hall
