Match preview: QPR v Owls

9 April 2021

The Owls head to the capital this weekend to face Queens Park Rangers at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

There have been plenty of positives from our recent performances that have produced wins over Barnsley and Cardiff, and manager Darren Moore is looking for that consistency to remain for the rest of the campaign.

Wednesday stunned the Bluebirds with a 5-0 victory in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Easter Monday and now head to QPR looking to build on that excellent display.

The R’s are the next challenge and they head into the game in mixed form.

Last time out, Mark Warburton’s side were defeated 3-1 away at Nottingham Forest but have won their previous two games at home against Millwall (3-2) and Coventry (3-0).

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the game:

PRE-MATCH

TEAM NEWS

Owls: Following the emphatic victory over Cardiff at Hillsborough, the squad came through the fixture unscathed.

Joost van Aken and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru are back on the training pitch with the first team.

Van Aken also played 45 minutes for the Under-23s last week in their 3-0 win over Hull.

The Owls boss says the duo now need that volume of training under their belts to edge closer to a first team return.

Keiren Westwood is back to full fitness having recovered from a rib injury, while the Owls boss is hopeful Chey Dunkley can make a return from the sidelines before the season is out.

QPR: In a big blow to the R’s ahead of the game, striker Charlie Austin has been handed a three-match ban for violent conduct following a clash with Ryan Yates during their 3-1 defeat to Forest.

A stamp on the midfielder was not picked up by the match officials and a charge was later issued on the basis of video evidence.

Defender Jordy de Wijs (groin) is expected to be available for selection, his fitness will be assessed on Friday morning.
