Owls recognised in Community Project of the Year

28 April 2021

The Owls are amongst all EFL clubs who have been recognised for our collective response to the COVID-19 pandemic by being named as recipients of the You Gov Community Project of the Year Award at the 2021 EFL Community Awards.

When the pandemic hit in March 2020, shutting down all aspects of society including football, clubs came together as a force for good and were among the first to respond to the needs of local communities.

Clubs and Community Programmes continued to provide a lifeline for so many, helping to keep people healthy, active and connected since the outbreak of coronavirus.

This award showcases the collective and individual responses made to the challenges of the pandemic and demonstrates the fantastic work the network has done in responding to the needs of our communities during an incredibly difficult period for everyone.

Here at Hillsborough, we have taken an active role in maintaining community engagement throughout the crisis.

From raising over £25,000 for local charities through to food bank donations, Christmas hamper deliveries and our players reaching out to the most vulnerable, we have remained at the forefront offering aid and assistance to those that need it the most.

With the Government roadmap to recovery rolled out successfully to date, everyone at Sheffield Wednesday sends our continued good wishes as we, like you, focus on the light at the end of the tunnel.
