The Owls turned in a five-star performance against play-off chasing Cardiff on Monday to breathe new life into the Championship basement battle.
And for assistant manager Jamie Smith, the 5-0 rout was evidence of what he has seen on the training ground in recent days and weeks.
He told swfc.co.uk: “This can give us massive belief. I see these players day in, day out on the training ground and I see the ability in the group.
“We had a good two weeks on the grass in the international break and I think we have seen the fruits of that today.
“Cardiff are a good side but we didn’t let them settle and we were right at it at both ends of the pitch.
“From a coaching perspective keeping a clean sheet like that is just as satisfying as scoring the five goals.
“We were disciplined and very professional. It shows what we are capable of, with and without the ball we were outstanding.”
He added: “We know it’s in there, we just need to see it more often. We have seen it today and confidence wise it can’t get much better.
“We have another few days on the training ground and another huge game at QPR on Saturday. We’ve shown what we are capable of and hopefully this will stand us in good stead.”
