Bringing the energy!

4 August 2021

Bailey Peacock-Farrell gave special praise to the Wednesday fans following his debut on Sunday in the Carabao Cup against Huddersfield.

The on-loan keeper made a good start to his stint at Hillsborough, producing a string of eye-catching stops and keeping a clean sheet over the 90 minutes before the Owls dipped out of the competition on penalties.

The 24-year-old enjoyed his first taste of S6 with the return of fans a huge positive over the weekend and going forward into the new season.

“Apart from how it ended, it was a great feeling to get my first appearance at Hillsborough with the fans back.

“They make a massive difference, it was a really great atmosphere. It was a shame the way the penalties went but other than that, it was a great feeling.

“They bring that excitement and adrenaline, an extra edge and sharpness back to football that we’ve all missed. It’s that extra bit of energy and it makes the whole thing more exciting.

“With fans being back in stadiums, I’ve had bits and bobs on international duty depending on where we’ve been but to get that amount of fans at Hillsborough was great.

“When you make saves and you’ve not heard supporters for so long and then you get that roar because the fans are back, it makes everything much better.”

Saturday will mark the start of our league campaign as we travel to The Valley.

The clash with Charlton will kick off at 5.30pm in front of the live Sky Sports cameras and Peacock-Farrell says there is always an extra buzz around a training ground building up to the first league game.

“It’s an exciting week,” he told swfc.co.uk. “This is what all the hard work in pre-season has been about – this week coming up.

“There’s a good build-up, the training is always intense and it’s hard and there is a lot of excitement looking forward to that first game.

“Everything is there for this game, two big teams, live on Sky, big travelling support and you can’t ask for anything better.”
