Moore bolsters coaching team

6 August 2021

Darren Moore has bolstered his coaching staff with the appointment of the vastly experienced Simon Ireland.

The former midfielder, who represented a raft of clubs across a 15-year playing career, joins the Owls ahead of our League One curtain raiser at Charlton on Saturday.

Ireland brings a wealth of knowledge to Hillsborough off the field having headed up academy operations and first team coaching roles at QPR and Nottingham Forest.

The Devon product has established ties with Moore and the duo now reunite as Ireland joins Jamie Smith, Neil Thompson and Adriano Basso in the Wednesday dugout.

Speaking exclusively to swfc.co.uk, Ireland said: “This is a huge football club, I have walked into a place full of positivity and I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead.

“Myself and Darren played together at Doncaster in the late 1990s, he was captain of the team, he always led by example and you could see he was destined for management.

“We touched base again at Blackburn where he was first team coach and I was working at the academy. This is a great opportunity to work alongside him again and the timing is perfect on the eve of what I’m sure will be an exciting new season.”
