Owls sign international forward Corbeanu

2 August 2021

Darren Moore has bolstered his attacking options with the capture of Canadian international forward Theo Corbeanu.

The 19-year-old joins Wednesday on a season-long loan from Premier League side Wolves.

Corbeanu earned his stripes in his native Canada, representing Mount Hamilton, Hamilton Sparta and Saltfleet before moving to Givona academy and then Toronto FC.

In 2018 he arrived on these shores for trials, initially for Leicester, but Wolves swooped and signed the teenager on a youth contract.

After scoring on his debut for the Under-16s, Corbeanu motored to the Under-23s and impressed, netting four goals in nine games to earn his first professional contract.

He soon became a regular in Wolves’ matchday squad, debuting in the Premier League at Tottenham last season.

Corbeanu has pedigree on the international stage too, earning a call-up from Canada in March for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. He took his bow from the bench against Bermuda and promptly found the net within four minutes in a 5-1 win.

The young striker was named in the Canada squad for the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer and was on target against Martinique as the team reached the semi finals.

Corbeanu arrives at Hillsborough ahead of our first league game of the new season at Charlton on Saturday and has been allocated shirt number 23.
