The Owls Under-18s were defeated 1-0 by Mansfield in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday morning.
It was Wednesday’s third pre-season fixture of the summer following games with Stockport and Rochdale, all of which have taken place at Thorncliffe.
Having picked up a 2-1 win over Rochdale last time out, there were plenty of changes in terms of squad selection, with many of the 18s travelling to Stocksbridge as part of an SWFC XI later the same day.
And in what was a closely contested warm-up fixture ahead of the new campaign, it was settled by one goal, five minutes before the half time interval.
It came on the counter as the Owls lost possession inside the Mansfield half and were made to pay as the visitors surged upfield and a cross from the left was bundled home from close range.
The Owls Under-18s round off their pre-season schedule on Friday against Notts County, 11.00am kick-off at Thorncliffe.
The 2021/22 season begins with a clash against Ipswich at Queen Ethelburga college on Friday 13 August.
