Wednesday extended their unbeaten run to 11 games with the 0-0 draw at Portsmouth and Darren Moore spoke to the media following a well-earned point for the Owls:
ON THE POINT
It was a dogged and determined performance and in terms of that, I am really pleased. Portsmouth are in a rich vein of form but we’ve stopped them tonight and I think from the two managers, Danny will be disappointed. We went down to 10 when Massimo was sent off and the players just went that little more deeper to get something from the game, they were desperate to hold on to that point.
ON THE RED CARD
I don’t think there are any complaints from us. Mass did get a bit of a tug on the arm but he was out of control with the challenge so we were not surprised to see the red card come out.
ON BAILEY PEACOCK-FARRELL
He was back to his commanding best tonight. His shot-stopping, his positional play, the way he commanded his area, everything was there for Bailey tonight and it was a man of the match performance. Some of the saves he made were outstanding so credit to him and the players in front of him who threw their bodies on the line.
ON THE INJURIES
We’ve come here without a recognised centre half tonight so well done to the players for that performance. The work rate was phenomenal, we had players playing out of position but they all just wanted to do their bit for the team. Chey and Ciaran were out tonight, Chey has a muscle strain, Ciaran took a bump to the thigh and with the anti-inflammatories he’s taking he’ll be back with the group soon. Same for Chey. With Josh, he’s made such a positive impact since coming back from injury but with the schedule of games and effects of the games he’s played, I said to him ‘Josh, I’m taking you out of the frame tonight’ and that is the sensible thing to do. We will see how they are as the week progresses before Saturday at Crewe. We had Liam and Marvin back tonight and that was a big positive.
ON THE UNBEATEN RUN
That’s 11 games unbeaten now and you have to take the positives from that because it is a positive. I want to make Sheffield Wednesday a hard team to beat and we are showing that. We know some of the draws should’ve been wins but tonight at Portsmouth that was a really positive point. In some games we’ve felt like one point should’ve been three but tonight we battled hard for that one point and got something from the game which we deserved.
