Fitness update on Hutchinson and Windass

31 December 2021

Owls manager Darren Moore has given fitness updates on Josh Windass and Sam Hutchinson.

Windass was missing from the teamsheet at the Stadium of Light on Thursday evening with a minor strain.

The forward has spent the majority of the campaign on the sidelines following a pre-season injury blow but returned in mid-November and scored two goals in three league appearances.

“Rather than him playing with these minor strains, we would rather get him back right,”

Moore explained. “For Josh, it is not about getting him right for one or two games, it is about getting him back for 20-odd games in the second half of the season.

“He has a minor injury, he is so close but he has been out for so long that sometimes you pick up these little minor strains. It is all part and parcel of getting back into it.”

Meanwhile Hutchinson is edging closer to a return to action.

The 32-year-old hasn’t featured since our 1-0 win over Bolton in early October but is back on the grass at Middlewood Road.

“Hutchinson is back in training and just needs that level,” Moore added. “We will continue to assess both Sam and Josh but they are very near.”
