The Owls will be hoping to put the frustrations over the festive period to bed on Thursday with a trip to Sunderland in Sky Bet League One.
It will be our first fixture in almost three weeks following a spate of postponements due to the latest variant of COVID sweeping the nation.
For Wednesday, it was back-to-back home games against Accrington and Burton that fell by the wayside but having returned to training after an outbreak of the virus in the squad, Darren Moore’s side are on with their preparations for the clash with Sunderland.
The previous meeting with the Black Cats saw us produce one of our best performances of the season at Hillsborough as Wednesday stunned the Wearsiders with a 3-0 victory.
Goals from Theo Corbeanu, Florian Kamberi and Lee Gregory did the damage back in early November.
That victory forms part of our unbeaten league run of 12 games – the longest current run in the top four tiers of English football.
Incidentally, our win over Sunderland was the Black Cats’ last defeat in League One, with Lee Johnson’s side now on an eight-game unbeaten streak after brushing aside Doncaster on Monday.
Wednesday also have the fewest defeats in the division (three from 22 outings) but our current run will no doubt be put to the test at the Stadium of Light on Thursday evening, as Sunderland look to hit the summit, and are currently just one point off leaders Rotherham.
Going to the game? Here are things you can do to stay safe and help stop the spread of COVID;
• Have your COVID pass ready before you set off for the match
• Take a lateral flow test before leaving home to make sure it’s negative
• Don’t forget your face covering
• If you are showing any COVID symptoms, please stay at home
