Just one point and one place in the league standings separates the two as Wednesday are in eighth position, one point outside of the play-offs (33), while Pompey sit ninth (32).

Danny Cowley’s side are top of the form table over the past six games, having won five and drawn one. They are on an unbeaten run of seven games.

Portsmouth have lost just one game since late October which came on Saturday in the FA Cup, a shock 2-1 home defeat to Harrogate.

Wednesday will be looking to extend the unbeaten run to 11 games in League One.

The Owls were the highest scoring team in the division last month with 11 goals from five games.

TEAM NEWS

Owls: Given the volume of fixtures over the hectic festive period, Darren Moore made seven changes for the Papa John’s Trophy defeat against Hartlepool last week.

Dennis Adeniran and Marvin Johnson are making good progress with their recoveries.

The gaffer said after last week’s defeat to Hartlepool: “We hope over the next six days to have two or three players back. They will be welcome additions. They are making wonderful progress.”

Liam Palmer (illness) could also come back into contention.

Portsmouth: Following the home defeat to Harrogate in the FA Cup, Cowley revealed midfielder Louis Thompson, who was set to start the game, has suffered a hip injury and will miss out on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, George Hirst and Joe Morrell sat out the cup-tie due to a sickness bug that has affected several members of the squad last week.
