Next game even more important

31 December 2021

It was a night to forget for the Owls at Sunderland on Thursday and with a quickfire return to action on the cards this weekend, Darren Moore says it’s an opportunity his side must take to bounce back.

Wednesday lacked all the ingredients that contributed to our 12-game unbeaten run at the Stadium of Light.

The 5-0 reverse against the Black Cats was our first defeat since 2 October but Wednesday have little time to reflect with a trip to Shrewsbury on the horizon.

Wednesday face the Shrews on Sunday afternoon (3.00pm).

“The next game gives us an opportunity to put things right,” the gaffer said.

“We have got to look towards Shrewsbury. We have got to take our medicine, it was not good enough at Sunderland, it was not acceptable.

“The players know that and I certainly know that and we have got to move on to the next one.

“When you suffer a defeat like that the next game becomes even more important and it doesn’t matter who you are playing.

“It could be anyone, it happens to be Shrewsbury and we have got to go there and put it right and perform how we know we can.

“We have to make sure we don’t show any more performances like that.

“We didn’t see a resilience and we have to make sure it doesn’t happen again because we’ve stepped into the arena and not performed.”
