Match preview: Brentford v Wednesday

24 February 2021

The Owls head to Brentford on Wednesday evening in the Sky Bet Championship.

It will be Wednesday’s first ever trip to the Brentford Community Stadium, with both sides in need of the points for different reasons.

For the Owls, Neil Thompson’s men suffered a bad week after back-to-back defeats to Stoke and Birmingham.

We head into the game three points from safety.

Meanwhile, the Bees’ promotion charge has hit a bump in the road after suffering three losses on the bounce; Barnsley (0-2), QPR (2-1) and Coventry (2-0).

TEAM NEWS

Wednesday: Liam Shaw will miss out through suspension after his dismissal on Saturday.

The 19-year-old has been hit with a two-game ban.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Izzy Brown played 45 minutes for the Under-23s last week, while the former also came on at Hillsborough for the final five minutes against Birmingham.

Both will be pushing to be involved in the capital.

Brentford: The Bees have several injury concerns.

Pontus Jansson, Emiliano Marcondes and Christian Norgaard are edging closer to a return to action but the clash with Wednesday may come too soon.

The Championship’s top scorer Ivan Toney (ankle) is a doubt.

The talisman, who has scored 24 goals from 30 appearances this season, missed the defeat at Coventry last time out and manager Thomas Frank has confirmed he will not start on Wednesday night.

Marcus Forss (concussion) is ruled out while Rico Henry (hamstring) is out longer term.
