The first 31 days of 2021 saw Wednesday play five games, picking up three wins and losing on two occasions.
The Owls were off to a flying start with a 1-0 victory over Derby on New Year’s Day, with Callum Paterson netting to give us a big three points at Hillsborough.
We then turned our attention to the FA Cup next with a long trip to League Two side Exeter.
A 2-0 win with goals from Adam Reach and Paterson saw us through to the next stage of the competition where we would line up against Premier League opposition.
Wednesday travelled to Goodison Park to face Everton in a repeat of the 1966 FA Cup final, but a 3-0 defeat to the Toffees meant we were out of the competition in round four.
We returned to league action with another away clash, this time at Coventry City, with Wednesday falling to a 2-0 defeat against the Sky Blues.
But January ended as it had begun for Wednesday, with a 1-0 victory at Hillsborough, this time over Preston North End.
Liam Palmer’s first goal since 2011 sealed victory and a fourth home win on the bounce for the Owls.
