A professional performance

9 January 2021

Andy Holdsworth hailed the whole Wednesday group after a trying week ended on a high note at Exeter in the FA Cup third round.

Goals from Adam Reach and Callum Paterson saw the Owls through and Holdsworth said a professional performance took his side over the line:

“It’s been hard work but well worth it. We’ve had a tough week but football is a squad game, whether players drop out with injury or illness or whatever.

“We had to mix it up today and I thought to the letter the lads did well. The remit was to come here and get the win and that’s what we have done.

“The young players impressed me today because this was never going to be an easy game. They knew their roles and stuck to them and can be proud of themselves tonight.

“For me personally, it’s a great experience. I have managed the Under-18s and the 23s and this has been very enjoyable and demanding.

“The main thing today was the group, we came for the win, we got the job done and we’re in the next round.”
