Finishing the Welsh trip on a high

5 July 2021

Darren Moore believes the Owls’ maiden friendly of the summer with Celtic will provide a good test for his side and represent a positive ending to a good pre-season spell in Wales.

The squad have been based in Newport over the past week and the camp is due to reach its conclusion on Wednesday afternoon with a behind closed doors clash against Scottish Premier League side Celtic.

Preparing for the first fixture of the summer, Moore told swfc.co.uk:

“It’s a great test for the boys, I think it’s a wonderful test.

“As you know they are competing for the Champions League so they’ll come in excellent condition.”

Celtic face FC Midtjylland in the second qualifying round of UEFA Champions League later this month.

For Wednesday, it’s the first of seven friendlies ahead of our league campaign which kicks off on Saturday 7 August away at Charlton.

“It’s a great first game for us in terms of the work that we’ll have to do off the ball,” Moore said of the clash with the Bhoys. “But we’ll also have to be very good on the ball because they are a top opposition.

“We are really delighted that both teams are in the same location and both teams thought it would be excellent to have an in-house game, so really looking forward to them coming down.

“It will finish off a good week with a positive game.”
