Sam Hutchinson talks mental health with Man Marking podcast

8 June 2021

Sam Hutchinson recently joined the Man Marking podcast to talk openly about mental health in men.

The show encourages men to speak candidly about their experiences of mental health issues in the hope of encouraging more to do so.

Men account for three quarters of all suicides in the UK, highlighting the importance for them to speak out and seek help.

Hutchinson has become a role model for many, as he regularly speaks about his own mental wellbeing, and he was as candid as always when he joined hosts Dan, Ryan and Anthony.

The former Chelsea man said: “Up until returning to Sheffield Wednesday, it tortured me, and has done my whole life.

“For the first time since before my injury and my retirement I am content with myself and who I am as a footballer and as a person.

“You need to speak to who you feel comfortable with, for me that’s always been my partner.

“It doesn’t discriminate. You look at people like Tyson Fury when he speaks about his mental health, he’s someone who inspires me as well.

“Speaking is like therapy for me but I also listen to other people’s struggles, because the more people you can listen to in different situations then the more you can take on board.”
