We are ready

7 May 2021

Following a positive week on the training ground in preparation for our biggest game of the season, Jamie Smith says the players are right on point with Saturday’s requirements.

The Owls head to Derby for a relegation shootout and potential winner take all clash. And Smith, addressing the assembled media on Friday afternoon, insists the whole S6 camp is ready for the task ahead.

He said: “We are ready. We’ve had a really positive week out there on the grass, the spirit is good, the attitude is right and we must win, it’s as simple as that.

“We have the fixture list on the office wall and today all those games have been crossed off apart from this one at the end and it’s the biggest one of all.

“We’re in with a shout and that’s all we can ask for going into the final day. Some things are outside of our control but I’m sure there will be people with phones and radios with news from Cardiff but we have to concentrate on what we can effect and that’s out there on the pitch against Derby.”

Smith also posted an encouraging update on Darren Moore as the Owls manager continues his recovery from illness.

It’s uncertain whether Moore will be in attendance at Pride Park but Smith said the gaffer has made his presence felt at Middlewood Road:

“He’s a lot better and obviously that’s great news. He’s been able to get into the training ground and that’s been a boost just having him back around the place.

“He’s taking things day by day so we will have to wait and see about tomorrow but the main thing is that’s he getting better.”
