Darren Moore: Post-MK Dons talking points

23 November 2021

Darren Moore summarises the Owls' dramatic 2-1 win over MK Dons at Hillsborough:

ON COMING BACK

That’s a tag off our back because it was unwanted and something we wanted to remove. I know it’s been two years since we came from behind to win at home and I’m really pleased. I said to the players ‘you deserve that, you deserve the three points because you never gave up, you never gave in’. I came here earlier this year and I was aware of this statistic and I don’t like it, I wanted it gone and now it’s gone so mentally it’s another building block in place. I’m delighted for the supporters because the noise when that winning goal went in was incredible and it shows again just what we have here.

ON THE THREE POINTS

It was important tonight because MK Dons are a good side, they came here above us in the table and now we have gone above them. I said to the players I wanted back-to-back wins tonight and they’ve got it and deserved it. We fell behind to a wonder goal really but I always felt we would come back, I always felt confident because we created so many chances, we had so many corners and set pieces so I thought something would give and it did. For me, that is the best three points of the season so far. We have another top team at home again on Saturday so we move on to that and look forward to it.

ON JOSH WINDASS

Obviously I am delighted for Josh because he’s been out a long time and he’s been champing at the bit to come back. He’s been saying to me ‘gaffer, I’m ready to play, I’m ready to start’ so it’s a matter of managing that situation and I felt the situation was right to put him on tonight. He’s got the assist, he’s got his goal and it was the winning goal so I couldn’t be happier for him. We’ve missed him, of course we have, we miss all the injured players so to have him back, to have Mass back as well, it’s a real positive.

ON THE CHAIRMAN & THE FANS

It's been really nice to meet the chairman for the first time in person. We’ve had plenty of video calls so it’s nice to see him face to face. He’s got so much passion for this football club and we all want the same thing, all of us in the stadium. I’m delighted he’s here to see this win tonight. We will be spending a lot of time together in the coming days and weeks so I am looking forward to getting to know him in person. I’m pleased for everyone tonight, I’m sure those fans who got soaking at Accrington were here tonight and that’s back-to-back wins so they can go home happy and go to work in the morning happy as well.

ON CALLUM PATERSON

I left Pato out tonight because he was on four bookings and this game was the cut-off point. I said to him ‘I could put you on the bench’ but that seemed pointless so I left him out completely with Saturday in mind.
