Match preview: Owls v Harrogate

9 November 2021

The Owls face Harrogate Town on Tuesday evening in our final Group H game of the Papa John’s Trophy.

Wednesday and Harrogate are already assured of places in the last 16 of the competition but the Hillsborough clash will determine who tops the group and has home advantage in round two as a result.

The eight winners and eight runners-up of the North and South group stages qualify for the round of 32.

The round of 32 pairings are determined by a draw whereby the winner of a group will be drawn at home and play a runner-up of a group from the same region (but not the same group).

This will be the first ever competitive fixture between the Owls and Harrogate.

TEAM NEWS

Owls: There were no fresh injuries following our goalless FA Cup clash with Plymouth on Sunday.

George Byers and Massimo Luongo could figure on Tuesday night with both players aiming to take the next big step in their respective roads to recovery.

Dominic Iorfa and Sam Hutchinson are unlikely to feature.

Manager Darren Moore could ring the changes given the vast number of fixtures in this hectic period and only 48 hours on from Sunday’s cup-tie with Argyle.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell is away on international duty with Northern Ireland and Joe Wildsmith should get the nod between the sticks.

Liam Waldock, Josh Render and Ciaran Brennan are all back training with Wednesday and eligible to feature.

Harrogate: Head coach Simon Weaver is also expected to make changes to the side that defeated Wrexham 2-1 in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Joe Cracknell has featured in the club’s previous two Papa John’s Trophy fixtures and is likely to play at Hillsborough.
