Darren Moore: Pre-Wimbledon talking points

14 October 2021

Ahead of our trip to Wimbledon on Saturday, Darren Moore spoke to the media from Middlewood Road on Thursday afternoon.

Here are all the key talking points:

ON INJURIES

We won’t be seeing Sam Huchinson, Lewis Gibson, Massimo Luongo or George Byers at the weekend, this game will be too soon for all of them. I wouldn’t want to give an absolute time on them, they are being monitored by the medical team. When we need to call upon them we will do but only when they are ready.

ON THE GOALKEEPERS

Bailey has joined back up with us today, we’ll assess him over the next 24 hours so we’ll see what shape he is in tomorrow. It would be unfair for me to say now what the decision will be, it would be wise for the coaching staff to look at the players ahead of the fixture. We have two excellent goalkeepers at the club. I was impressed with Joe when we played against Barnsley last season, so I’m not shocked or surprised with how well he’s done.

ON CONSISTENCY

We want to be consistent over the 90 minutes, but the opposition work hard to stop you doing what you want to do. We keep striving for that complete performance but you see different games in this league. Last weekend we had to dig in and defend well to get the three points. Every week is a different challenge and it takes all the ingredients in the pot to get those performances. We keep trying to improve every single week, you want it to happen overnight but the truth is it takes work.

ON WIMBLEDON

It’s a magnificent story with Wimbledon in terms of where they have got to and the new stadium they have. It means a lot to their fans and I congratulate the club and Robbo, and it’s great to see them moving in the right direction. We’re looking forward to the game and I’m looking forward to catching up with Robbo as well. For every game, we prepare for it with absolute detail on their strengths and weaknesses and that’s no different to any team in the division.

ON JACK HALL

It’s great that Jack has the recognition with England this week. I had a representative from England call me yesterday to let me know how excellent Jack has been. We’ve got a great prospect here, a young goalkeeper growing in stature. He’s training with the first team players and experiences the power of the likes of Gregory and Berahino and Pato shooting at him. We have two excellent goalkeeping coaches in Adriano Basso and Nicky Weaver at the club and they will continue to work with him. The last two months have been great for Jack and he deserves credit for keeping a level head throughout. There’s a firm belief in the younger players and they need to continue working hard.
