Last leg for Bears of Sheffield

7 October 2021

After a delay of exactly a year due to COVID-19, The Children’s Hospital Charity’s Bears of Sheffield is reaching its climax.

The upcoming Farewell Weekend at Meadowhall and final auction at the Crucible Theatre will complete the fundraising.

The Farewell Weekend will take place from Thursday 14 October to Sunday 17 October at Meadowhall, giving everyone the chance to say a final goodbye to all the bears, including the specially commissioned Wednesday Bear.

On Monday 18 October, the Bears of Sheffield will be making their final journey to be auctioned off at the Crucible Theatre.

If you are interested in attending the Farewell Weekend at Meadowhall, you can buy a ticket for the event HERE.

The event was created to support the redevelopment and transformation of the Cancer and Leukaemia ward at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

The ward is the Principal Treatment Centre for children with cancer and leukaemia from babies through to 19-year-olds within South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire and Lincolnshire.

It also sees patients from across the UK for chemotherapy, operations and bone marrow transplants. While the ward provides excellent care, the facilities are dated and in 2018, a charity appeal was launched to transform the ward.

The Children’s Hospital Charity have for the first time revealed how much has been raised towards the project - more than £2m of its £2.75m cost.

Should the Bears of Sheffield raise the final £700,000 needed to complete the next stage of the capital appeal, the new ward will be open to patients from early next year, with building work having commenced in May 2021.

Thank you all for your support with this brilliant campaign!
