Support S6 Foodbank this weekend

20 October 2021

The Owls will host S6 Foodbank at Hillsborough on Saturday ahead of our clash with Lincoln City to support their vital work with people across Sheffield.

The upcoming collection follows two hugely successful pre-pandemic food collections in the 2019/20 season, each of which saw fans donate over a tonne of food.

Volunteers from S6 Foodbank will be accepting donations from 12.00pm until 3.00pm on Saturday 23 October, before our game against the Imps.

There will be two areas where supporters can donate items, one stationed outside the Owls Megastore with the other next to the South Stand bridge on Parkside Road.

Fans can donate canned and packaged goods, with S6 Foodbank requesting the following items in particular:

  • Tinned tomatoes
  • UHT milk
  • Long-life fruit juice cartons
  • Tinned fruit
  • Toiletries - such as shampoo, shower gel and deodorant

Supporters are also able to donate cash, either into secure donation buckets at the food donation points, or via Just Giving, HERE.

S6 Foodbank has seen huge growth in demand over the past 18 months. In March 2020 they supported 150 people each week from four locations across the city; they now support 1,200 people each week from 11 locations, with numbers predicted to rise further with an end to furlough, rising energy costs and an end to the Universal Credit uplift.

Sheffield S6 Foodbank manager, Chris Hardy, said: “Time and again the team at Sheffield Wednesday, and their brilliant fans, have proved that they care about others in their community and have stepped up to offer support when it is most needed.

“As we approach the winter months, when we typically see a 20% increase in demand at our foodbank, we are asking the Wednesday fans to give what they can to support their city.”

The collection at Hillsborough forms part of S6 Foodbank’s #ForAllSheffield campaign, which aims to raise £150,000 to provide one million meals to people across the city between April 2021 and March 2022.

‘For All Sheffield’, reflects the changing nature of foodbank provision in the city over the past 18 months, which sees donations made to S6 Foodbank support people living across the city, from Crookes to Sharrow, from Woodhouse to Firth Park.

People can stay up to date by following @s6foodbank on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, searching the hashtag #ForAllSheffield, or by visiting the S6 Foodbank website HERE.
