The Owls are extending our use of the Government Kickstart Scheme, aimed at providing young people a new pathway into employment.
Introduced in September 2020, the £2bn Kickstart project, backed by the EFL, gives people between the ages of 16-24 in receipt of Universal Credit the platform to pursue funded career opportunities.
Both the club and our Community Programme (SWFCCP) have been at the forefront of utilising Kickstart, leading the way for football clubs across the UK.
We currently have a range of roles advertised on the scheme, including:
- General Events Assistant
- Ticketing and Retail Assistant
- Commercial Sales Assistant
- General Ground & Maintenance Assistant
- HR Assistant
- Accounts Assistant
The Owls and SWFCCP have together supported 24 young people to date by providing vital work experience.
We are pleased to report that 11 of the 12 to complete their six-month Kickstart programme have progressed to permanent employment or further education, with the remaining 12 still on the books at Hillsborough.
Cameron Calvert, 21, has taken up the role as Marketing & Design Executive at the club and explained: “Before joining the Owls, I was unemployed for 10 months after leaving university and was just starting a part time retail job.
“I was made aware of a Kickstart role with Wednesday and I had to apply. Thankfully I was lucky enough to be offered the chance to work with the club I’ve supported all my life and it’s truly surreal!
“Now to have a permanent contract with the club is a dream come true and I cannot recommend applying for the scheme enough.”
With the Kickstart scheme only available for those receiving Universal Credit, the easiest route for potential candidates is to speak with your Job Centre Employment Coach, who will walk you through the process.
We look forward to helping more young people back into employment as soon as possible!
