Still working, still learning

15 September 2021

After a summer of change at Hillsborough and one of the biggest team rebuilds over a single transfer window, Darren Moore has stressed there is still plenty of work ahead.

With an abundance of new faces in the squad, Wednesday made huge strides over the summer months and backed up the pre-season feelgood factor with a strong start to the league campaign.

Back-to-back League One defeats on the road at Morecambe and Plymouth have given plenty for the gaffer to consider ahead of a return to Hillsborough this weekend.

As the Owls aim to bounce back and return to winning ways against Shrewsbury on home soil, Moore said:

“They often say that when you are winning games it’s great and when you lose games, you learn a lot from it.

“We are still working, still learning, we have got a new team together and have made huge strides in such a short space of time.

“What we can’t do from those huge strides is take a step backwards and that’s what happened with our performance on Saturday.

“It serves a purpose as know we are not the finished article, we have to get back to being on top of our own game and performing to the highest level we know we can.”

Just two of our six league games so far have been at Hillsborough, where Moore’s side have picked up wins over Doncaster and Fleetwood.

Aiming to make it three from three in S6, Moore continued:

“The only way you put it right is to get back on the training ground, having a good clean week of work and then we look forward to Saturday against Shrewsbury.

“You learn a lot, we have got tons of work to do but we will get the work done.”
