Darren Moore: Post-Fleetwood talking points

26 April 2022

Here are the key talking points from Darren Moore's post-match press conference after our 3-2 win over Fleetwood.

We made it hard for ourselves but we got there and got the win. It was deserved because we dominated the game two lapses of concentration cost us two goals. I was really disappointed because I see the players in training and they are better than that. Some strong words were said at half time and we right at it in the second half. Lee Gregory will take the plaudits but that was a team performance that won us the game.

He's done ever so well tonight and we needed him. Lee is a proven goalscorer and he shows time and again why he’s such a quality striker. The first two were instinct, poachers goals but the one that really impressed me the most was the third goal. He won possession and drove forward with purpose and determination to win us the game. Credit too to Pato for making the diagonal run that took the defender away and allowed Greggers the shot.

I’m delighted for those fans again, they have come in their numbers to support the team once again. We were down south on Saturday, back up north tonight and they are with us every step of the way. It was a deserved three points and those fans deserve those points as well. We are back at our home on Saturday with a sold out Hillsborough and we are really looking forward  to the occasion.

We’ve done our job tonight but we’re not there yet. We have one more important game to go and then we can say the job is done in terms of finishing in the top six. To finish in the top six was the aim and that still stands so we have to hold our nerve on Saturday against a very good team that have had a great result themselves tonight. Portsmouth will come to Hillsborough to enjoy the occasion and we must be at the very top of our game to get the points we need.

Harlee was left out as a precaution really and we took Fiz out because we wanted four forward players on the bench if we needed them. The substitutions proved really important and it was good to see Josh get some game time. He could’ve scored as well near the end but the most important thing is to see him fit and back out there on the pitch. I think we have come through the game unscathed on the injury front, although I always like to give it 24 hours. We have the rest of the week to get through and want as many bodies as possible available on Saturday.
