Over £1,000 raised for Weston Park Cancer Charity!

21 April 2022

Supporters raised over £1,000 for Weston Park Cancer Charity when the Owls faced AFC Wimbledon earlier this month.

The local charity held a bucket collection at Hillsborough on 2 April, where a fantastic £1,032.08 was raised!

The funds will help WPCC continue their vital work in the fight against cancer, aiding research, care and treatment for those effected by the disease.

Wednesdayites have given generously to Weston Park this season, as £1,152.95 was also raised when the charity visited S6 in November.

Darren Hayes, Head of Fundraising at Weston Park Cancer Charity, said: “We could not do what we do without the support of wonderful organisations like Sheffield Wednesday.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to all the Owls fans who donated so generously at our most recent takeover day and bucket collection, and to the amazing volunteers who gave up their time to support us on the day.

“To have raised more than £1,000 for the second time this season is brilliant, and demonstrates just how much Weston Park means to the people of this region.

“The takeover day also provided a great opportunity for people to find out more about the Sheffield Wednesday Legends vs Czech Republic Legends game, which is coming to Hillsborough on 14 May.

“We’re really excited about the game and the impact it will make for people facing cancer. With tickets priced at just £3 for concessions and £6 for adults, it’ll be a great afternoon’s entertainment with internationally renowned stars set to take part. And with proceeds going to Weston Park and Real Top Praha in the Czech Republic, it’s another great chance to support people going through cancer in our region.

“Everybody will be impacted by cancer in their lifetimes at some point – either directly or indirectly – so it is vital for us to continue to be there, together at every step, for the people in our region who are affected. Support like this means we can do just that.”
