Owls Legends v Czech Republic Legends at Hillsborough!

12 April 2022

The Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme have joined forces with popular ex-Owl Daniel Pudil to host an exciting weekend event here at Hillsborough next month.

Pudil, who made 113 appearances for Wednesday between 2015 and 2019, approached the club and SWFCCP with the prospect of pitching Owls legends against our counterparts from the Czech Republic – all in the name of charity.

The ball soon began to roll, culminating in what will be a mouth-watering clash of the titans in S6 on Saturday 14 May.

Scheduled to represent the Owls are, in no particular order, the likes of Glenn Loovens, Reda Johnson, Glenn Whelan, Matt Hamshaw, Ross Wallace, Miguel Llera, Lee Peacock, Lee Bullen, Deon Burton, Graham Coughlan, David Lucas, JP McGovern and potentially more!

Lining up for the Czech Republic will be Pudil, Vladimir Smicer, Jan Koller, Tomas Ujfalusi, Karel Rada, David Lafata, Marek Heinz, Zdenek Zlamal, Patrik Jezek, Lukas Zelenka, Roman Bednar, Martin Latka, Karol Kisel plus special guests!

And that’s not all, because the night before the game, on Friday 13 May, Hillsborough will host ‘An Evening with the Legends’ in the 1867 Lounge.

Presented by BBC Radio Sheffield’s Rob Staton, the first event will take in a Q&A with the players, pie and peas supper, photo opportunities, unique prize auction, a magician and more!

Tickets for the evening affair are £20, while tickets for the game are just £6 adults and concessions £3.

All proceeds from both events will be donated to Weston Park Cancer Charity in Sheffield and Real Top Praha in the Czech Republic.

Pudil said: “I would like to thank Sheffield Wednesday and the Community Programme for hosting these events. We hope many people will come along and support the legends and help raise lots of money for charities in both countries.”

Darren Hayes, Head of Fundraising at Weston Park, added: “We’re honoured that the legends football match will raise funds for the one in two people who will be diagnosed with cancer.

"The money raised will ensure that we can be there, at every step, for people facing cancer by enabling vital research, providing support and enhancing treatment.”
